How a pest enters the home can be specific to the pest and it’s reasons for being there. Is it a rodent looking for warmth from the cold? Roaches looking for food? Ants in need of moisture for the sustaining of their colony? Each individual species invades in different ways, different areas, different seasons, but in general pests will exploit any opening available to them. Inspect your property looking for obvious openings, plug,caulk or repair them. Also eliminate food and water sources like leaking plumbing and uncovered garbage bins. There are many ways to prevent general pest infestations.[1] Over all keep your home buttoned up tight, declutter and repair. Practice good “pest hygiene” and your pest problems will be limited.
