The type of termite that infests homes in South Jersey is the subterranean termite. They live in colonies underground and eat dead wood. They enter a home through mud tubes that they build along the foundation of a home. Once in the home they use these same mud tunnels to travel throughout the house from one food source to the next. In order to successfully eliminate a termite colony that has infested a home, a professional exterminator will dig a trench in the soil around the home and holes are drilled in areas where the soil is covered in concrete.  Termiticide is pumped into the holes and applied in the trench to allow the termites as they travel back and forth from the structure to their colonies to pick up the product on their body and eventually kill the colony.
